Support for Joanie

Jul 17, 2026 | News & Events

Since late last year, Hope Strengthens Foundation (HSF) has been privileged to support Joanie Hastings as she recovers from a spinal cord injury. Thanks to your generosity, HSF has helped cover her medical bills and insurance co-payments.

With your continued support, we’re preparing to help cover Joanie’s out-of-pocket costs for physical therapy sessions and a specialized lateral rotation mattress that alternates pressure so she can shift side to side.

Please use the donation link below to contribute to our efforts to assist Joanie. To learn more about her recovery, please read the following update from Joanie’s daughter Abby.

An Update on Joanie’s Journey

Fourteen months ago, our family faced a life-changing challenge when my mom suffered a spinal cord injury. The road since then has been filled with uncertainty, hard work, setbacks, victories, and more determination than we ever thought possible.

We are grateful to share that she has been back home since the fall of 2025. Through extensive renovations, her home was made fully accessible, allowing her to live more comfortably and independently. She now has a wheelchair-accessible van that enables her to attend appointments, therapies, and visit family.

Her recovery journey continues every day. She remains committed to her rehabilitation, attending weekly therapy sessions at Project Walk and Emerson Health Physical Therapy. Her dedication, resilience, and positive attitude continue to inspire all of us. While recovery from a spinal cord injury is a marathon, not a sprint, she continues to work tirelessly toward her goals and celebrate every step forward.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of so many people. We are deeply grateful to our family, friends, neighbors, caregivers, therapists, medical professionals, and community members who have stood beside us throughout this journey. Whether you offered a meal, a prayer, a donation, a helping hand, words of encouragement, or simply checked in to see how she was doing, your kindness has meant more than we can adequately express.

Your support has helped carry us through some of the most difficult days and has given us hope during moments when we needed it most. We are continually reminded of how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such a compassionate and caring community.

While there is still work ahead, we are celebrating how far she has come. Thank you for believing in her, encouraging her, and walking alongside our family during this journey. We look forward to sharing more milestones in the future.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The Hastings Family
