In Memoriam: Chris Laursen

Feb 19, 2019 | News & Events

We were heartbroken to learn that Chris Laursen recently passed away following a courageous battle against cancer.

Chris grew up on Martha’s Vineyard (MA) and was known throughout the community for his kind heart, positivity, sense of humor, soccer skills, and exceptional computer science talents. He grew up to be a professional designer and developer, working out of New York City.

Last year, Chris received a scan that revealed he had a soft-tissue sarcoma, which spread to his lungs. Through it all, Chris maintained a positive attitude and fought cancer with valor. He began his chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC and then returned home to Martha’s Vineyard to be closer to family and friends, continuing his treatment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

The community on the Vineyard rallied around Chris, raising critical resources to help defray the costs associated with his treatment. HSF was honored to be a part of this community and work directly with Chris to identify targeted areas that our network of donors could support.

Chris will forever live in our hearts and inspire our efforts to help others facing a life-threatening illness or recovering from a traumatic injury.
